ff. 12r-31v: William of Waddington, Manuel de Pechiez, imperfect, also known as 'The Harleian Roll' for the series of shields painted around 1314 in the upper margins of the leaves (only 161 surviving).
Decoration:
The shields may have been painted in the upper margins around 1314, according to Ainsworth, 'Asneton, Chandos et "X": Jean Froissart et l’éclosion des mythes' (1993), p. 71.
One hundred and twenty-six armorial shields in colours in the upper margins (ff. 12r-28r). Outlines of unfinished shields sketched in brown ink (ff. 29r-31v).
Other shields are missing or damaged because the folios are in a fragmentary state. Large initials in blue with red pen-flourishing. Paraphs in red or blue. Capitals marked in red.
