Origin: England.
Provenance:
One of the scribes may also have been the main hand in Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, 183 (which contains vitae and other material relating to St Cuthbert). That manuscript has been variously attributed to Glastonbury, Wells, Winchester or another West Saxon centre (see Keynes, 'King Athelstan's Books' (1985), p. 184).
? The Benedictine cathedral of Christ Church, Canterbury: an 11th-century glossing scribe may have consulted the glosses in the manuscript that is now Brussels, Koninklijke Bibliotheek van België/ Bibliothèque royale de Belgique, MS 1650, which has been associated with Canterbury (see Gwara, 'Canterbury Affiliations' (1996), p. 369). Corrections of Aldhelm's letter may also be related to readings glossed in Cotton MS Domitian A IX, which has also been linked to Canterbury (Gwara, 'Canterbury Affiliations' (1996), p. 370-71).
? The Benedictine abbey of St Mary, Abingdon (see Gwara, 'Canterbury Affiliations' (1996), p. 373).
Later ? 10th- or 11th-century additions to the figural drawing
Later medieval added title, reading 'Liber de virginitate' (f. 82r).
Obliterated later text, possibly in a large Gothic script (f. 168v).
17th century: supply leaves added (ff. 163r-165v).
Patrick Young ('Junius', b. 1584, d. 1652): corrections in his hand (ff. 163r-165v).
