The map is of the basin of Lake Urmi [Urmia] in the Azerbaijan region of Persia [Iran], and shows hydrology and relief, with heights given in feet.
It was created by Robert Theodore Günther, and was compiled partly from Russian and English maps, and partly from route surveys by General Houtum Schindler. The map was published by the Royal Geographical Society, and it is the last folio of a pamphlet by Günther entitled 'Contributions to the Natural History of Lake Urmi, N.W. Persia, and its Neighbourhood.' [Mss Eur F111/356, ff 65-133], which was extracted from volume 27 of the Linnean Society’s Journal Zoology.
