- This volume contains letters sent to and from the East India Company Factory at Bussorah [Basra] between 19 April 1725 and 25 September 1726. It includes material relating to:
- The rivalry of the English at Tillicherry [Thalassery] with the French at Mihie [Mahé]
- The trading privileges obtained from the Governor of Bagdat [Baghdad], Achmat Bashaw [Gürcü Ahmed Pasha]
- An Act of Parliament to deter British citizens from taking direct or indirect part in the ‘Ostend trade’
- The remonstrance of the Chief Agent with the Governor of Bussorah, Abde Rahman Basha [Abd al-Rahman Pasha]
- An order [firman] from Constantinople [Istanbul] to the Dafftardar Efendy [i.e. Daftardar Efendi, the Book Keeper, Mahmud Efendi] and Cawzy Efendy [i.e. Qadi Efendi, the Chief Judge]
- The execution of the ‘male line’ of the Persian royal family by King Mahmud [Shah Mahmud Ghilza’i], and the deposition of Mahmud by his cousin, subsequently proclaimed as Ashreff Sultan [Sultan Ashraf Ghilza’i; also rendered as Ashroph and Ashroff in the volume]
- The arrival of an embassy from Ashroph Sultan at Mussull [Mosul] on its way to the Porte
- The measures taken to stamp out private trade conducted by the employees of the Company
- The negotiations with Ottoman officials over customs to be paid on imported merchandise at Bussorah
- The appointment, by the Callantar of Minoe [Kalantar of Minoo], of Sheik Rashet [Shaikh Rashid bin Matar al-Qasimi], as keeper of the forts on the Island of Kismish [Qeshm] for Shaw Thomas [Shah Tahmasb II]
- The dismissal and appeal of the Factory’s Linguist [i.e. interpreter], Hodje Ismael [Hadji Isma‘il]
- A request from King Ashroff to the English and Dutch for assistance to the new Governor of Gombroon [Bandar-e 'Abbas]
- The wresting, by Zyed Ahmat Caun [Sayyid Ahmad Khan, Hakim of Kerman], of the governorship of Carmania [Kerman] from Valéé Mahmud Caun [Vali Muhammad Khan, previous Hakim of Kerman]
- The instructions from the President and Council at Bombay [Mumbai] to abandon the Factory at Bussorah
- The arrival of Rice Jungee [Ra’is Jangi] with a following of 1200 Ballooches [Baluchis] at Gombroon
- The letters from Ashroff, King at Spahaun [Isfahan] to the English and Dutch captains at Gombroon
