- Title:
- ‘A complaint preferred by the Prime Minister of Persia, that the Persian Consul at Bombay had been subjected to certain indignities and oppression’
- Scope & Content:
-
Enclosure nos. 2-13 to a despatch from the Secret Department, Government of Bombay, dated 30 June 1848. The enclosures are dated 16 March-30 June 1848, and include copies of documents dated 28 October 1841-5 January 1848.
The enclosures consist of copies of correspondence relating to a complaint by the Prime Minister of Persia [Iran] that Aga Mahomed Rahim Khan Shirazee [Āghā Muḥammad Raḥīm Khān Shīrāzī], Persian Consul at Bombay [Mumbai], has been ‘unlawfully imprisoned’ and his property seized, and that a place of prayer at his residence was defiled. A reply from the Advocate-General, Bombay, states that the actions against the Consul were taken lawfully by his creditors, and that an action by the Consul for trespass and damages during the seizure of his property has been settled. The item also includes details of the Consul’s insolvency hearing (ff 376-392) and a copy of an Anglo-Persian trade agreement signed in 1841.
In addition to the Advocate-General, the primary correspondents are: the Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Persia; the Clerk in the Court for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors, Bombay; and the Government of India.
