Enclosure no. 9 to a despatch from the Secret Department, Government of Bombay, dated 1 December 1842. The enclosure is dated 2 November 1842. A note attached to folio 372 states that ‘(Enclosures Nos 2-8 are missing)’.
The enclosure contains an account by Captain Charles Delamain, commanding the 3rd Regiment Light Cavalry, of the deaths of Captain Bury, Brevet Captain Reeves, and sixteen others under his command ‘in an encounter with the Enemy’ near Cabool [Kabul], towards the end of the First Anglo-Afghan War. It also contains a request by Delamain that his account be published to counter the ‘many incorrect versions of this affair [that] will probably appear’, and an unsigned note that the account is to be ‘inserted in [the Bombay Government] Gazette of Nov 24’.
