- Scope & Content:
- This bilingual lithographed map, annotated in English and Persian [entitled Naqshah-'i Īrān: ḥawzah-'i mālīyah-'i vilāyāt], indicates the boundaries and seats of financial agencies relating to the financial districts and provinces of Qajar Persia [Iran]. The map records, in addition to major rivers and coastlines, the borders of adjacent territories that include (in clockwise order): Turkestan [Turkistan], Afghanistan, British Baluchistan, Oman, the Persian Gulf, Arabia, Mesopotamia, Azerbeidjan [Azerbaijan], the Caucasus, and the Caspian Sea. The map shows indicators for scale (measuring 38 mm, equating to 200 miles or farsang), a key, a latitude and longitude graticule, and numerical degrees along the outer edges. No date of creation is stated. The engraver of the Persian text is identified in a Persian inscription along the map's lower edge [Sulaymān Baṣīr al-Ṣanā’i‘]. The English text is signed Hossein Ali [Ḥusayn ‘Alī]. The map is bound obliquely along the lower edge. The map is nearly identical in contents and form to others in the same volume (folios 10, 95, 190, 346, and 446).
