This item is a collection to Bombay Political Despatch No. 47 of 22 December 1859, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of Bombay Political Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay’s Political Despatch No. 78 of 20 August 1859 to the Secretary of State for India, on the subject of the suppression of the trade in enslaved people and arrangements for one or more vessels of the Indian Navy to be available to intercept and search vessels returning to Amulgavine [Umm Al Quwain] and Rasul Khymah [Ra’s al-Khaymah] from trips to the coast of Africa.
The collection was compiled for information purposes for the Secretary of State for India to compose the answering Political Despatch.
The enclosed papers consist of copies of correspondence and resolutions of the Government of Bombay. The primary correspondents are: the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy; and Griffith Jenkins, Commanding the Persian Gulf Squadron.
