Secret Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 26 of 1871, dated 23 May 1871, containing enclosures dated 24 February-20 May 1871.
The enclosures consist of copies of correspondence and telegrams regarding the progress of events in Nejd [Najd] and the expedition which the Turkish [Ottoman] Government is sending there with the view of reinstating the Wahabee Imam [Wahhābī Imām] Abdoolla [‘Abdullāh bin Fayṣal bin Turkī], recently deposed by his brother Saood [Sa‘ūd bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd].
The primary correspondents are: the Political Agent in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Herbert; the Secretary to the Government of India Foreign Department; the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly; and the Government of Bombay.
The despatch was received by the India Office Secret Department on 20 June 1871, and a copy was sent to the Foreign Office on 25 October 1871.
