This item consists of a copy of a Political Letter from the Government of India’s Foreign Department, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 23 of 1876, dated 28 January 1876, submitting enclosures related to the settlement of financial claims, dated 6 November 1875-27 January 1876.
The enclosures consist of copies of correspondence discussing considerations for the settlement of claims between residents of Bahrein [Bahrain] and Guttur [Qatar], particularly those pre-dating the Turkish [Ottoman] occupation of Guttur and Nejd [Najd].
The correspondents are: the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the Ruler of Bahrein [Shaikh ‘Īsá bin ‘Alī Āl Khalīfah]; the Ottoman Governor of Busrah [Basra]; and the Government of India.
The item also includes a copy of Article 3 of the 1861 British Treaty with Bahrein [Perpetual Truce of Peace and Friendship].
