- View of a female dancer with band playing traditional instruments. The dancer is wearing traditional Newar clothing: parsi (a sari with many pleats), misālan (blouse fastened with cloth ties and (shawl) wrapped around her upper body. The headdress is worn for special events. The instruments held by the boys are, left to right, a curved and a simple sahane (reed instrument), a dholaki (a two-sided drum with black tuning paste on the skin), taah and mujura (large and small cymbals connected by a cord), a tyampko (small leather and wood kettle drum also with tuning paste on the skin), and a narsinga (copper and brass trimmed curved trumpet). These are the traditional musical instruments in a panche baja ensemble which performs at special occasions such as weddings and Dashain. Corresponds to Photo 1424/1(14) (glass plate negative); Photo 1424/3(19) (albumen print).
