- View of Taleju Temple, Kathmandu Darbar Square, Kathmandu. The temple was built in 1564 by King Mahendra Malla and dedicated to Taleju Bhawani, a form of Parvati that originated in southern India and became the royal goddess of the Malla kings in the 14th century. The photograph is shot from the steps of the Kageshvar Temple. Taleju Temple dominates the north-east of the Darbar Square. The Singha Dhoka (Lion Gate) - the only public entry point to the temple - is on the right of the image. The shrine in the foreground of the photo and the two-story building behind it are not part of the temple. The building is no longer extant.
