- Scope & Content:
- View of the preparting of bodies for cremation at the north end of Bhashmeshvar Ghat on the west bank of the Bagmati River at Pashupati. The stairs to the Ayar Ghat and southern most foot bridge are on the extreme right of the photograph. The three domes of the Bhashmeshvar Mahadev Temple rise above the plastered brick wall (with arched alcoves) behind the ghat. Behind the temple are its associated sattals. The Pashupati complex of temples and ghats is located five kilometres northeast of Kathmandu Darbar Square. Named for Pashupati, the Lord of Animals incarnation of Shiva, it has been a primary Shiva pilgrimage site since before the current era.
