On the right, Rama leaves Dasaratha's palace in a chariot to return to his own palace, while the king above looks out of a carpeted jharokha window at his departing son; on the left, men who bring news of Rama’s elevation to Queen Kausalya's palace are rewarded by her with gifts of cows and horses. Sita and Sumitra are already with her.
