Kaikeyi is first seen on the left sleeping dishevelled as in the previous picture and then rises from her bed to persuade her husband to grant her the two boons that Dasaratha had earlier promised her. On the right Dasaratha is first seen bemused seated on a couch as he listens to her demand that her son Bharata be promised the throne and Rama be exiled for fourteen years and then distraught below kneeling at Kaikeyi's feet beseeching her to change her mind. Sumantra in the middle has been sent at dawn by Vasistha to summon Dasaratha to the coronation.
