Title:
Lease of a vineyard (TM 981865)
Scope & Content:
Fragment of a contract for the lease of a three-arura vineyard around the place of Aphous in the Hermopolite nome. The lessors are two sisters, Elisabet and Helladia, and the lessee is an individual, whose name is now lost, from the village of Magdola Mire in the Hermopolite nome.

Extent:
Medium brown, well-preserved papyrus sheet, complete on the right but fragmentary at the bottom and on the left. The upper edge is irregular with the top margin possibly imperfect. Written on one side in 15 lines along the fibres. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard and housed in a glass case.

Small papyrus sheet, complete, with some surface damage; written on both sides. On the front there are 9 lines written along the fibres, complete; all margins survive, with the right being slightly damaged. On the back, there is one word written across the fibres in the lower right-hand corner. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Fragment of a papyrus sheet, written on one side across the fibres and broken at the top and bottom. Whether this was an isolated text or part of a liturgical roll is unknown. Words do not overflow into the following line but are completed above the line. Nomina sacra are abbreviated. Housed in one glass case.

Speech, presumably of ad advocate, held during a trial before some high official, against Potamon, former strategus of the division of Herakleides, for mismanagement in the collection of a farmed tax, perhaps the one on sale.

Lower part of a papyrus sheet, with abrasion and few holes; written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. 24 lines from the foot of a column survive; the left margin measures 60 mm, the lower 30 mm and the right varies between 5-20 mm. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Contract of sale of a building, possibly a house; the sellers are a group of individuals and the buyer one single man; only the subscription to the contract survives.

Three fragments of varying size from a papyrus sheet, containing the ends of nine lines; the upper fragment is upside down in the frame and a smaller fragment was incorrectly attached to it; the mid and bottom fragment were originally contiguous. Writing is on one side across the fibres. An average of 30 letters is lost on the left; the lower margin measures approximately 70 mm. Housed in one glass case, wrongly labelled as Papyrus 2912(2).

Two fragments from different papyrus sheets; the smaller is broken off at the bottom and the left, whereas it is complete at the top and right, with no margins free. Writing runs along the fibres on one side.

The larger fragment contains the lower portion of a text; it is broken off at the top, but complete at the bottom, left and right. Writing is along the fibres, the back being blank.

Only the end of this agreement survives, with the final clauses and subscriptions of Flavius Georgius, who drew up and wrote the deed in Memnoneia, and of five witnesses, who are presbyters and deacons.

Surrender of a Pledged Necklace (SB XVIII 13777, TM 18399)
Scope & Content:
An agreement whereby Aurelia Taam, from the Coptite nome, agreed to cede a silver necklace to Aurelius Daniel, from Memnoneia. The necklace had been deposited as security for a loan which the woman was not able to pay back in full. With subscriptions of the witnesses at the end.
