Title:
Sale of a Donkey (P.Lond. II 303, Chrest.Mitt. 160, TM 11683)
Scope & Content:
Sale of a white-mouse-coloured donkey purchased for 148 drachmas in the village of Herakleia by Stotoetis, son of Horus, of Soknopaiou Nesos, from Dioscorus, son of Castor. The scribe is Alcimus, who also wrote the subscription on account of Dioscorus, who is illiterate.

Light-brown papyrus sheet, fully preserved although somewhat damaged along the two vertical folds. Slight abrasion affects the end of two lines. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank. The text consists of one column with 32 lines, complete. The first line is indented and separated by some blank space from the following line. All margins are extant, with barely any blank space left at the bottom and right. A sheet-join runs across the fibres at c. 1-3 mm from the right edge. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Contract for the Appointment of a Delegate (P.Lond. II 306, Chrest.Wilck. 263, TM 11685)
Scope & Content:
Stotoetis, son of Stotoetis, tax-collector in Herakleia, appoints Satornilus, son of Apion, as a deputy in the tax collection for the third share of the office for two years. The delegate has to pay all the expenses related to the work and is to receive a salary of 252 drachmas per year.

Papyrus sheet, broken off at the bottom and damaged along the vertical folding lines. Writing is on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. The text consists of one column with 26 lines, with the last quite mutilated. Left and upper margins are extant; no blank space was left to the right. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

The text consists of one column with 26 lines, the last of which, separated by little blank space, is indented. All margins are extant, with no margin at the right. Incomplete papyrus sheet, broken off at the left and with five detached scraps located in the left-hand side of the frame. The sheet is damaged by holes throughout, especially along the vertical folds, with loss mostly affecting the left portion. Writing runs along the fibres on the front, with one broad column of 25 lines, the last of which is indented. The back has traces of lines written across the fibres, much defaced, and the official stamp in red. Upper and lower margins are extant; no blank space was left at the right. The surface is abraded in places. The papyrus is housed in a glass case.
