According to Ian MacNiven, Lawrence Durrell: A Biography (1998), Durrell met Mary Hadkinson in 1946, when she worked as a photographer for Parade magazine (see p. 323). See also: Mary Mollo, 'Larry, My Friend', Twentieth Century Literature, 33:3 (1987), pp. 317-28.
