Papers of Thomas Clifford, 1st Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, and his son Hugh, 2nd Baron Clifford; temp. James I [between 1603-1625]-1713, n.d. Chiefly relating to the Secret Treaty of Dover and to religious and financial affairs under Charles II. Originally preserved at the Cliffords' country house at Ugbrooke in Devon. Sold at Sotheby's, 23 July 1987, lots 243 and 245. Add. 65138 and 65139 (lot 243) were acquired by the British Library under export licence regulations, with the aid of a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund; 65140 and 65141 (lot 245) were purchased subsequently from Burgess Browning, Catalogue no. 2, 1988, item 30.
