This collection contains two series: the Register of Liberated Africans (lists of Africans liberated from slave ships by the British Royal Navy between 1808 and 1845) and Letter Books (miscellaneous correspondence between 1820 and 1847) kept by the Liberated African Department. These lists and letter books were created as part of the operation of the Liberated African Department. The collection includes digital images from the Register of Liberated Africans between 1814 and 1815 (nos. 4,684-7,507) and digital images from the Letter Books (1820-1826) which includes various correspondence with the residents of Sierra Leone.
