Title:

The Papers of Thereza Story-Maskelyne (1834-1926)

Scope & Content:

The Thereza Story-Maskelyne archive at the British Library consists of journals, diaries, memoirs and related papers along with photographs, watercolours, drawings, sketches and postcard prints.

The majority of the collection consists of journals and personal diaries, Add MS 89120/1-7, kept prior to Thereza’s marriage to mineralologist, politician and photographer, Nevil Story-Maskelyne in June 1858 along with a volume of illustrated verse (Add MS 89120/8. Add MS 89120/9 is a short pamphlet on the history of early photography completed in 1923 while Add MS 89120/10-14 are memoirs completed in the same year. The memoirs are illustrated with photographs, watercolours, prints and sketches dating from the period of the recorded events. Finally there are two collections of notes by Nevil Story-Maskelyne relating to chemistry and photography. These are found at Add MS 89120/15-16.
