Collection of 45 uncaptioned albumen prints, mounted on card and accompanying a collection of plans relating to military activities in Kabul during the occupation of the city in the Second Afghan War. The photographs range from general views (concentrating on the Sherpur Cantonment and Bala Hissar (Citadel) areas), to reference photographs of specific buildings and of the forts constructed on the hills overlooking the city. Captions for this collection have been adapted from those accompanying the duplicate set of prints in APAC Photo 197. The Oriental and India Office Collections also contain other duplicates of many of the prints in this series and cross-references to these are noted in the individual catalogue entries. The present set of prints, however, is generally in the best condition of the various copies. The accompanying sheets contain plans and elevations of many of the structures photographed, as well as useful large-scale plans of the general area of Kabul, the Bala Hissar (showing the location of British units after its occupation) and the Sherpur Cantonment.
