Tony Campbell worked at Robert Douwma Ltd, and from Feb 1984 in the Map Room at the British Library, where he was Map Librarian from 1987. He retired in 2001.
He was Imago Mundi's Corresponding Editor for auction sales from 1970, and Chronicle Editor from vol 27 (1975). He became a Director of Imago Mundi Limited in 1990.
He has been Chairman of Imago Mundi Limited since 1993, in succession to Eila Campbell (no relation), and Secretary/Treasurer since 1995.
Tony Campbell and Catherine Delano Smith quickly agreed when they took over from Eila Campbell in 1993 that they would split her workload between them: he would organise the international conferences, and she would produce Imago Mundi.
Tony Campbell continues as an elected officer of Imago Mundi Limited. His papers here are therefore incomplete. Some gaps have however been filled from a 'Day File' of extra copies of all correspondence, 1996-2002, in the British Library Map Room office. These can be identified by punched holes, and the pencil initials 'DF' in the top centre.
His predecessor as Secretary/Treasurer, Brian Dolley, resigned in 1995 on the grounds of ill-health. He passed on various working papers. These can be found scattered through Tony Campbell's filing. Other papers appear to have been passed on by Peter Lawrence, a previous Secretary/Treasurer.
