B. CORRESPONDENCE
Correspondence, 1848-1913, including a letter to Flora Mitten, Wallace's sister-in-law, 1914, letters to Wallace's wife, Annie, née Mitten, and copies of letters from Wallace to S. C. Cockerell, T. D. A. Cockerell, C. R. Darwin, W. B. Hemsley, T. H. Huxley, C. Reid, and W. T. Thiselton-Dyer. Both Wallace, My Life, 1905, and Marchant, op. cit., make use of Wallace's family letters and letters to Wallace not extant, and Marchant of Wallace's letters to his correspondents which are not included in this collection. Three sets of annotations occur, viz:- (a) autograph dockets by Wallace, (b) names of writers (not always accurately transcribed) and sometimes a rough subjectclassification in pencil by W. G. Wallace, (c) dates in blue pencil. The names of the writers will be found in the Index to the present Catalogue.
