A. R. WALLACE PAPERS. Vol. XXI (ff. ix + 378). Correspondence with:-
(1) Charles Robert Darwin, author of The Origin of Species, 1859, and other members of the Darwin family, including copies of Wallace's letters to C. R. Darwin, and letters on botanical subjects by Gustav Heinrich Adolf Engler and Otto Stapf addressed to Francis Darwin and forwarded by him to Wallace; 1857-1909. Preceded by a typewritten list of the correspondence between Wallace and C. R. Darwin and an autograph note to the printer by J. Marchant, Wallace's biographer, who prints all the letters in this list (including two from Darwin not found in this volume) in A. R. Wallace, Letters and Reminiscences, i, 1916, pp. 127-320; many of Darwin's letters are printed in Francis Darwin, Life and Letters of Charles Darwin, 3 vols., 1887, and More Letters of Charles Darwin, 2 vols., 1903. The originals of Wallace's letters to C. R. Darwin are preserved in Cambridge University Library, Darwin MS. 106/107 (see Handlist of Darwin Papers at the University Library, Cambridge, 1960). A letter from C. R. Darwin to Wallace, February 1872, not printed by Marchant, loc. cit., was sold at Sotheby's, 18 July 1967, lot 484. ff i-vi; 1-349.
