This series contains records of the first Marquis of Clanricarde, Ulick John de Burgh, in his role as Postmaster General from 1846 to 1852. It consists of the following sub-series:
Letters Received: from various individuals arranged alphabetically by correspondents' names, relating to Post Office business, but also Irish affairs and other business matters;
Letters Sent: one volume of copy letters written by Clanricarde, mainly on Post Office business, but also including others on Irish affairs and other matters;
Correspondence with Rowland Hill;
Recruitment: papers relating to General Post Office recruitment;
And Letters Forwarded by Dead Letter Office: letters refused by Louis Philippe and other family members in exile at Claremont, Esher, in Surrey, forwarded to the Postmaster General.
