Scope & Content:

The series consists of two copying and/or correspondence books from the Lima Insane Asylum, covering the years 1888 to 1919. The first book covers the period from January 1888 to 23 October 1899, while the second book covers the period from 24 October to 15 March 1919. Both books contain transcriptions of handwritten letters dealing with administrative matters such as the admission and discharge of patients, the renovation of the infrastructure of the various areas of the asylum, orders for the purchase of medicines for the apothecary's shop as well as the purchase of therapeutic devices. In addition, reports can be found on various incidents that occurred with patients as well as with the attending and auxiliary doctors. All this information was sent by the inspector to the Society of the Public Charity of Lima.

La serie está compuesta por dos libros copiadores y/o de correspondencia del Manicomio de Lima y que corresponden a los años de 1888 a 1919. El primer libro cubre el periodo de enero de 1888 hasta el 23 de octubre de 1899 mientras que el segundo libro parte del 24 de octubre hasta el 15 de marzo de 1919. Ambos libros contienen transcripciones de cartas manuscritas que abordan cuestiones administrativas como el ingreso y salida de pacientes, la renovación de la infraestructura de las diversas áreas del manicomio, los pedidos de compra de medicamentos para la botica así como también la compra de dispositivos terapéuticos. Asimismo, se puede encontrar reportes de diversos incidentes ocurridos tanto con los pacientes como con los médicos titulares y auxiliares. Toda esta información era remitida por el inspector a la Sociedad de Beneficencia Pública de Lima.
