- Title:
- Jewry Street Warehouse
- Scope & Content:
- The warehouse was erected in 1795 and 1796. The freehold section of the building stood upon part of the ground purchased by the East India Company from William Bedford and others, Love Stuart Tulk, and Millicent Towse. The leasehold section stood upon the ground purchased from the Ironmongers' Company, and upon part of the ground purchased from the Clothworkers' Company. In 1795 the Crown granted a licence to the East India Company to take a piece of Northumberland Alley in order to create a new passage between Crutched Friars and Fenchurch Street. In exchange for this land, the Company gave up the other parts of the ground purchased from William Bedford and the Clothworkers' Company.
