At the rear stood the barracks built by Nurse on the site of 13-15 Gardeners Lane, leased by Brealey to Nurse for a term expiring 24 June 1881, and of 1-2 Baker's Alley leased by Brealey to Nurse for a term expiring 24 June 1891. The properties were purchased for £2,500 by the Secretary of State for India.
