- 43 Charles Street comprised a butcher's shop and dwelling house. 16 Gardeners Lane, a newly built model lodging house, stood at the rear of 43 Charles Street. Both these freehold premises were leased by John Brealey to John Cracklen for a term expiring 29 September 1945. Underleases were in operation: Jabez Price received compensation as both leaseholder and occupier of 43 Charles Street, and Mrs Young received compensation as the occupier of 16 Gardeners Lane. The properties were purchased for £1,500 by the Secretary of State for India. 44 Charles Street was a freehold shop and dwelling leased by John Brealey to John Cracklen for a term expiring 25 March 1946. An underlease was in operation: Mary Ann Heather received compensation as leaseholder and occupier of 44 Charles Street. The property was purchased for £840 by the Secretary of State for India.
