- The freeholds of these properties were purchased by the Secretary of State for India from different members of the Lewer family in 1866 for a total of £9,542 10s. All except 1 and 3 Duke Street were let to yearly tenants. The Secretary of State purchased the freehold of the Robin Hood and Little John Public House, 1 Duke Street from Emma Oakley, and the leasehold from Mrs Jane Sizer, who was also compensated as occupier. 2 Gardeners Lane was occupied by Mary Gardiner; 2 Duke Street was occupied by William Arthur D'Arcy; 3 Duke Street was occupied by William Henry Lewer; 4 Duke Street was occupied by Hannah Hartley and her undertenants Martin Le Clere and Thomas S Farrar. The occupier of 5 Duke Street was John Watts Brassington. The Secretary of State purchased the freehold of 1 Gardeners Lane and 30 Charles Street from Edward Nathaniel Lewer. Edwin de Brennie was the occupier of 1 Gardeners Lane and Robert Coaker of 30 Charles Street.
