IOR/R/15/2/1998-2015

The Confidential Files sub-sub-series contains files related to the Shaikhdoms along the Trucial Coast, primarily Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Ras al-Khaimah. These files discuss the following topics:

• political developments in Ras al-Khaimah, notably regarding the actions of its ruler, Shaikh Sultan bin Salim Āl Qāsimī (files IOR/R/15/2/1998-99,2011);
• the concessions for oil exploration and development along the Trucial Coast that were granted to the company Petroleum Concessions Limited and its subsidiaries. (IOR/R/15/2/2001-2,2012-14);
• political developments in Dubai, notably the political reform movement of 1938 and related events (IOR/R/15/2/2009-10);
• a boundary dispute between the Shaikdoms of Abu Dhabi and Dubai (2010A and 2015);
• developments in Qatar including British representation in the country (IOR/R/15/2/2000), health facilities (IOR/R/15/2/2005), arms purchases (IOR/R/15/2/2006) and jurisdiction over foreigners(IOR/R/15/2/2004);
• political developments in Abu Dhabi (IOR/R/15/2/2008).

The majority of the correspondence in the files is between British government officials and is in English, but the files also contain correspondence in Arabic, including letters to/from regional rulers.
