Continuation of papers regarding the 1913 uprising of the [Ibāḍī] imamate and the tribes of the interior of Oman [under the leadership of Sālim bin Rāshid al-Kharūṣī], against the authority of the Sultan [Sulṭān] of Muscat and Oman [Taymūr bin Fayṣal Āl Bū Sa‘īd].
Parts 3 and 4 document the following: efforts to reform the customs and judicial administration of Muscat; the appointment of European advisers to the Sultan of Muscat; the grant of a loan by the Government of India to pay off the debts of the Sultanate; and negotiations between the Political Agent at Muscat and the [Ibāḍī] rebel leadership, culminating in the 1920 Treaty of Sib [As Sib].
The volume primarily consists of reports and correspondence submitted by the Political Agent at Muscat, the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, and the Civil Commissioner at Baghdad, as well as correspondence between the Government of India Foreign and Political Department, the India Office Political Department, and the Chief Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf. The volume also contains translations of letters received from the Sultan and the rebel leaders [Shaikh ‘Īsá bin Ṣāliḥ al-Ḥārithī and Shaikh Ḥimyar bin Nāṣir al-Nabhānī].
Each part includes a divider which gives the subject and part numbers, the year the subject file was opened, the subject heading, and a list of correspondence references contained in the part by year. These are placed at the end of the correspondence (folios 1 and 238).
