Lamb Papers (Series II). Vol. lxxvii. Copy documents concerning the sale of Melbourne House, Whitehall; 1771-[1830]. With the exception of item 1, the volume contains copies of charters and abstracts of title produced by Charles Cookney of Holborn, solicitor, compiled in connection with the sale of the property in 1830. The copies in this volume concern transactions relating to the house prior to the 1830 sale, for copy deeds produced as a result of the actual sale see 83040. (45/4/1-8. 45/1/32-41).
1. Copy release from Henry Lord Holland, Baron of Foxley, co. Wilts., and Georgina Caroline Lady Holland, to Peniston Lamb, Viscount Melbourne, of a capital messuage on the north side of Piccadilly, to the East of Burlington House near Portugal Street, for £16500; 1 April 1771. (45/4/34).
2. Copy case with opinion of A. MacDonald and J. Scott, the Attorney and Solicitor General, concerning the implications of the Act of the 1st Queen Anne, Cap. 7, sections 5& 6, on the leasing of York House by the Duke of York. Includes the observations of the agents of the Duke of York and Peniston Lamb, Viscount Melbourne, and a revised opinion in the light of their queries; 1792. (45/4/33).
3. Copy demise by letters patent (reversionary lease) to Frederick Duke of York and Albany; 31 Oct 1792. A messuage near the Cock Pit, Whitehall Palace, co. Midd., and a parcel within Whitehall Palace on the east side of Parliament Street, from 1824 (when the term granted in letters patent to Sir Matthew Featherstonhaugh, Bart., of 20 March 1755, shall have expired) for a period to make up the term of 50 years from the present date, £45 6s 8d yearly; also a parcel within the precinct of Whitehall Palace on the east side of the street leading from Charing Cross to Westminster Hall, lately used as an Office for the Commissioners of the Lottery, for 50 years at £28 9s 8d yearly.
