Charterhouse Nominations
- Scope & Content:
-
Contains letters relating to the nominations of various writers to positions as Poor Brothers of the Charterhouse. These nominations were in the gift of Queen Victoria, and members of the royal staff sought the advice of Octavian Blewitt, the Literary Fund’s Secretary, on suitable literary men to nominate. Some of those appointed were less than impressed with the way that the Charterhouse was run – this box also contains correspondence concerning these objections. Folders are ordered chronologically by date of first item.
