- Scope & Content:
-
Total of 44 leaves separately mounted remaining from a total in 1830 of 45. The missing picture, no.7, would have been a ‘ragamala’ subject similar to nos 1-6 and 8. Nos 9-24 are ‘charbas’ with illustrations from a Sanskrit or Hindi text. Nos 26-30 are tracings on paper. No. 36 has 15 illustrations of ‘avataras’ on a single sheet. Nos 44 and 45 are ‘charbas’ of ‘ragamala’ subjects related to those of Album 31. The remaining numbers are mixed pictures, mostly of Hindu religious subjects. The paintings were previously loosely inserted in an album of blank leaves of Whatman paper provided with an alphabetical thumb index at one end, measuring 425 by 265mm. Picture no.7 was missing when the collection was listed in the 1930s by Dr H.N. Randle (MSS.Eur.D.542).
