Total of 11 leaves separately mounted. The number of items in this album is not stipulated in the 1830 catalogue where it is described as 'A Portfolio - red -containing several mythological and other obscene pictures', the latter presumably nos 1-3. Nos 4-9 tally with a note made in the 1830 catalogue in 1912 by Dr Thomas, the Librarian, describing 'Six drawings (with 36 others - smaller - on back) removed for preservation in the S. of S.'s room'. No. 10 is similar in size and subject to nos 4-9. In Dr H.N. Randle's catalogue (MSS.Eur.D.542 datable to the 1930s) 10 pictures are listed under Album '61'. Included in these 10 are the present Album 66, nos 4-11, and two additional Oriental pictures (Add.Or.3853, 3854). Randle was mistaken in numbering these as Album 61, but he notes a record made by G.H. Baker on 8 Jan. 1912, that the album was returned by Mr Foster from the Secretary of State's office with 2 plates only. This accords with the note in the 1830 catalogue stating that 6 drawings had been removed for preservation in the Secretary of State's room, the total of 8 being made up by present Album 66, nos 10 and 11. Album 66, nos 1-3 are not mentioned in Randle's catalogue, suggesting that they had by then been removed because of their 'obscene' nature, a precaution taken prior to 1912. They were later found in the Library in a separate location. The pictures of Album 66 were formerly kept loosely inserted in an Indian red morocco folder. All are now separately mounted.
