Charlotte Canning's copy letter journals, written to her mother and family from India. These journals cover the period of the Indian Mutiny, including the siege of Lucknow, the siege and massacre at Cawnpore, and the re-taking of Delhi.
Loose leaves, compiled within a hard cover binder. For entries Jan-21 Feb 1857, 22 Apr 1857-3 May 1857 & 24 Dec 1857- see Mss Eur F699/2/2/3/3. For entries 10-24 Dec 1857 see Mss Eur F699/2/2/3/5. Consists of the following parts:

7 Mar 1857-21 Mar 1857: Encloses a letter from a tailor applying for a position (ff. 8-14)
22 Mar 1857-8 Apr 1857: (ff.15-20)
4 May 1857-12 May 1857: Includes pen & ink sketches of work on the terrace. (ff. 21-30)
13 May 1857-5 Jun 1857: These copy letter journal entries may have been sent in different parts but Charlotte Canning has numbered them consecutively (ff. 31-53)
