Papers given to Charles Canning by a deputation from Dr James Bryce, General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, in a visit on 24 Nov 1855. Includes printed letter to Lord Dalhousie dated Dec 1854, and handwritten ‘Statement regarding the Scotch Church in India, places in the hands of the Lord Viscount Canning…’[Nov 1855], with letter of introduction from Lord Haddington.
Memorandum ‘Position and Wants of Roman Catholics in British India’ by Thomas Grant, 8 Nov 1855. Memorandum from Hon. Rev. Charles Harries relative to the case of the Syrian Archbishop of the Malabar Christians. Includes correspondence with Charles Canning, asking him to intervene, 13 Nov 1855. Also includes copy of abstract of correspondence regarding the Malabar Christians with the East India Company Directors, 1849-1852.
Addresses by Chaplains James Peniston and William Strickland setting forth their wishes regarding Roman Catholics in India, Feb 1856. Also copy of printed ‘Notes on the Present Position of Catholics in India' by Rev. William Strickland & Rev. Ignatius Persico, 1853.
