Series of five telegrams relating to activities in Benares, in envelope marked 'Telegraphs. Not recorded or duplicated'. Described the military situation at Benares, asks Canning for decisions on executions of those involved in the rebellion, and refers to troops at Ghazeepore, 11-29 June 1857.
Also telegram from the Commanding Officer at Benares, 14 June 1857, regarding treasure at Ghazeepore, supply of fusiliers etc. Memo from H. Anderson, Bombay, 4 July 1857, forwarding papers from Brigadier General Sir P. Lawrence (not enclosed).
Letter to Lord Dunkellin, Military Secretary, from Colonel Cavenagh, regarding escaped prisoner, 15 June 1857. Annotated by Charles Canning. Also memorandum on the escaped prisoner by James Dorin, with annotation and comments by J.P. Grant amongst others.
