Contains documents relating to the tenure of Edmund Baker as Collector and Clerk of the Literary Fund, between 1800 and 1807. These include letters from Baker to Thomas Dale, Thomas Pelham, Lord Pelham, the Committee of the Literary Fund and Richard Yates detailing his work collecting and encouraging subscriptions to the Fund, and in 1807, letters detailing his resignation from the position. The file also includes a letter from Thomas Bracken regarding Baker and letters from Dale and George Ranking with respect to payments made to Baker and Charles Lamborn for their work. Also contains two letters from James Usher written in 1835 asking for the Literary Fund to assist Baker, who was, at the age of 70, both deeply unwell and imprisoned as a debtor in the Fleet. Includes a handwritten contents list by Nigel Cross.
