Contains applications for the office of collector from Charles Payne, Charles Berkeley, R Kennerley, Thomas Bedder (with recommendation letters from William Frend and William Sixmore) and Joseph Snow (with recommendation letters from Charles Kemble and George Yeats), with related letters from Owen Rees and Thomas Joseph Pettigrew. Snow was eventually appointed, and the file also contains an interesting letter giving details of his early life, a letter from T Kelly with further information, details of his salary, his resignation letter (Dec 1835), a follow-up, a resolution by William Jerdan thanking him for his ‘unwearied zeal and undeviating fidelity’ and a letter from Snow to Octavian Blewitt asking for a copy of this resolution. Includes a handwritten contents list by Nigel Cross.
