Contains correspondence from 1881 and 1882 with respect to the position of Clerk, including applications from Eustace Owen (with supporting letters from Herny Aikin, Frederick [Onselen?] F. Waldegrave Brewster, Thomas Clifford, Saxby & Farmer, B W Day, Engall Sanders & Co and H I Sanders) and Arthur Llewelyn Roberts (supported by William Smith, H R Bramley, Bonamy Price, Charles Wolley Dod, Arthur Stirling and John Murray). Roberts was appointed (by letter from William Smith and Anthony Trollope); the file also contains details of his duties drawn up by Octavian Blewitt, further letters from William Smith, a number of letters and certificates from the Guarantee Society and further administrative notes. Roberst died on 7 Oct 1919; the file contains an obituary clipping, a receipt for a payment of £200 to his widow, Maud Llewelyn Roberts, and sixteen proof copies of an appreciation of his life later printed in the Fund’s Annual Report for 1919 (see RLF 3/20), some of these with annotations and alterations.
