Contains applications for the post of Collector of the Literary Fund from Thomas James Blencowe (supported by [?] Gooch, John Blake Honnywill, Frederick J Turner, Thomas Orgez, T. J Atkins and Daniel Moore), John Rouse (recommended by Henry Reeve), Richard Elkins (recommended by Henry Foss) and George Pymm (recommended by J W), with related letters from J Dickinson, Henry Ellis, Richard Monckton Milnes, John Gough Nichols, William Tooke, and Octavian Blewitt. Blencowe was appointed, Dr Charles Lenton having testified that he suffered from epilepsy but that this might be relieved by ‘having his mind occupied and free exercise in the open air.’ The Committee took a policy in the Guarantee Society as surety for Blencowe, detailed in letters by Blewitt and William Henry Harrison, and his proposed sureties were checked by Tooke, Hallowes & Price. Also contains an 1864 doctor’s letter on Blencowe’s illness and a further related letter from Harrison. Includes a handwritten contents list by Nigel Cross.
