- João de Deos, slave, claimed that his master, Hermenegildo Pereira Lima, did not enrolled him in the Emancipation Fund for which he should be bestowed with a certificate of emancipation (carta de liberdade), except for the “direitos dominicais” (Sunday rights) conceded to his master by law.
