- This volume contains letters sent to and from the East India Company Factory at Bussorah [Basra, also spelt Bussora in the volume] between 9 October 1785 and 4 October 1787, and covers the following:
- The correspondence of the Agent at Bussorah, Samuel Manesty, with the Court of Directors and Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the Company
- The movements and possible instructions of the French vessels visiting Muscat and the Persian Gulph [Gulf], and the potential for the French to intercept British communications through the Gulf in the event of a war
- The departure of Captain Matthew Jenour of HM 102nd Regiment from Bussorah for Aleppo
- The conclusion of a peace, by Mahomed Beg, between Bagdat [Baghdad] and the Chaub [Banū Ka’b]
- The cultivation of friendly relations between Manesty and Shaik Gathban [Shaikh Ghaḍbān al-Ka’bī]
- The correspondence between Manesty and Soliman Bacha [Büyük Sulaymān Pāshā] of Bagdat
- The appointment of William Gamul Farmer as Resident at Bussorah and his arrival on the King George, and the relinquishment of his appointment by Farmer and replacement with John Griffith
- The struggle between Jaffier Khan [Ja’far Khān Zand] and Mahomed Khan [Āqā Muḥammad Khān Qājār], Governor of Mazanderan [Mazandaran], over possession of Ispahan [Isfahan], and the apparent reconciliation between the Zand claimants Sciat Morat Khan [Ṣayd Murād Khān] and Jaffier Khan
- The arrival of four ships belonging to Tippoo Sultan [Tipū Sulṭān] at Muscat en route to Judda [Jeddah]

- The hostilities between the Mahrattas [Marathas] and Nizam Ally [Nizām ‘Alī] against Tippoo Sultan
