The map shows the Sultanate of Muscat, and the surrounding ‘Great Arabian Desert’, ‘Pirate Coast’ [now the United Arab Emirates], Indian Ocean, and Persian Gulf. There is a note on the left-hand side of the map sheet signed by Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly, Resident in the Persian Gulf, dated 21 December 1865, explaining that the black line on the map marks the inland frontier of the Muscat Sultanate, and stating whether the tribes of the Batinah, the Ajara [Hajar] and Jaalan [Jalan] mountains, and Dahirah are favourable to the Sultan of Muscat, the Wahabees [[Wahhābī], or neutral.
The road from the Wahabee territories to Beremah [Al-Buraymi] is indicated. The map also includes place names, hydrology, and some indication of relief.
There is also a note in the bottom left-hand corner of the map sheet stating that the map was copied by Nowrojee Pestonjee [Nawruji Pestonji or Nawrūzī Pīstanjī].
