Scope & Content:
Fragmentary contract for the lease of a stable at Hermopolis for an undetermined period of time; details of the rent are lost; with subscriptions of the witnesses at the end and endorsement on the back. Dated to 4 January 544 or 3 January 599.

Scope & Content:
Beginning of a contract for a five-year lease of 1 ¼ aruras of uninundated land for the annual rent of 1 and 1/3 solidi minus 8 carats. The lessor is Aurelius Petrus and the lessee Aurelius Colluthus, both of the Hermopolite village of Nagogis. With docket on the back.

Papyrus sheet, darkened in places, broken off at the bottom and with minor surface damage throughout. Writing runs along the fibres on both sides, the back having a one-line docket. The front preserves 17 lines, complete, and traces of another line at the bottom; side and upper margins are minimal. The papyrus is housed in a glass case.

Medium-brown papyrus, made up of two sheets with opposite fibre orientation glued together; displaying some surface damage; written on both sides. On the front, there are 24 lines; the first 14 are written on the first sheet along the fibres; the other lines are written across the fibres in a different hand on the second sheet; this second sheet, although having been pasted at the bottom, contains the beginning of the text. The back was reused to host one document of 33 lines, written upside down in relation to the text on the front, and running partly along the fibres on the upper sheet, and partly across the fibres on the lower sheet. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Papyrus fragment, darker by patches, rubbed in places; an additional small fragment of the same papyrus is in Basel (P.Bas. inv. 42). Writing is on both sides: the front bears the right-hand portion of 25 lines, with signs in the lower margin. Upper, lower and right margins are extant and minimal. The fragment in Basel preserves the beginnings of 12 lines and the right margin; 40-44 letters were lost between the fragments. Vertical folds are visible; on the back, traces of five lines against the fibres, written upside down and in mirror script, were transferred from another document; a sheet-join is visible at c. 45 mm from the right edge. Part of the endorsement is preserved on the back of the fragment in Basel. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.
