- Title:
- Manuscripts housed at the Kuti [abode] of Pha Khamfan Silasangvara Maha Thera
- Scope & Content:
- With four exceptions (see below), the manuscripts of this corpus are palm-leaf manuscripts. Nine-tenth of the 98 fascicles deal with religious themes. One third of these manuscripts (29) have Anisong (blessing) texts pertaining to the religious benefit derived from certain kinds of gift-giving (dāna). Apart from 4 mononlingual Pali manuscripts, all others are written in the Lao vernacular (or bilingual Lao-Pali), mostly in the Lao variant of the Dhamma script. The bulk of these manuscripts, as far as can be reconstructed, have been gathered and personally used by Pha Khamfan Silsangvara Maha Thera (1901–1987), former abbot of Vat Suvanna Khili. They are now kept in a red-walled building in the monastery compound which is used as a central repositery for manuscripts. Date of original material: Roughly half of manuscripts (48) have colophons which record the date when the scribe had finished the writing process. The dates are given in Culasakaraja (CS), the “minor era”, in Myanmar also called the “Burmese era” which was widely used in Laos until the early 20th century. In some cases also the year of the 60-year-cycle is indicated in round brackets. Manuscripts from the second half of the 20th century are sometimes also dated in the Buddhist Era (BE) or even the Common Era (CE/AD).; . Total of 98 fascicles digitised.
