Partly Latin, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Arabic. The bulk of the material consists of diplomatic correspondence of Charles I with other European rulers and states (Add. 72426-72429), and of miscellaneous correspondence and papers concerning foreign affairs (Add. 72430, 72431). Domestic matters form the subject-matter of Add. 72432, while Add. 72433, Weckherlin's diary of official business, covers the period from 1633 to 1642. For ciphers used by him in diplomatic correspondence, circa 1623-1641, and for some intercepted letters, etc., of Charles I, see Add. 72438; and for other official papers and personal correspondence, etc., see Add. 72439. Weckherlin's autograph transcripts of letters from Charles I to foreign rulers, 1627-1635, are now Add. 38669, and a copy in Weckherlin's hand of a letter of Charles to Louis XIII, in French, 1633, is Add. 72323, f. , above.
